Halloween Helleksen style isn't what it is like for most families. I was never allowed to go trick-or-treating because my mom knows the history of the holiday and it went against our religious beliefs. We would still dress up, go to our church for a harvest carnival, play games, and get candy like everyone else. I never once felt like I was missing out. Anytime someone hears that I have never gone trick-or-treating (except once in 10th grade), they always say I was missing out on my childhood. Just because I didn't go begging door to door, doesn't mean I missed out. No, I was never allowed to watch Harry Potter, Halloweentown, or anything with witchcraft in it, but I know my parents meant the best. It's funny to see how things change for my younger siblings. My sister is twelve and my mom let her go trick-or-treating last night. I know she doesn't support it, but it's interesting to see her loosen up with each kid. To this day, even though i'm allowed to do those things, i'm past the point of it even being tempting. I don't get excited for Halloween like everyone else, but I guess it's an okay time. I spent my night last night at my work with my work friends. We had a DJ and tons of free food. My stomach hurts, but it was fun.
